Visiting the Philippines: Around Manila

There are several ways of going around the city.

A taxi can be hailed from most major streets. A taxi can get you to any place in Metro Manila. The flagdown rate is fifty pesos and the fare is 2.50 pesos per kilometer travelled.

If you feel adventurous, we may try to ride in our jeepney, bus, or mass-transit system. They can take you around the city at a lower cost, but you need some familiarity with the streets. Arm yourself with a map.

While you are in Manila, you can visit some of its sights. There are lots to see, but if you have only a few days, you may want to look at these:

Other top draws inside intramuros include Manila Cathedral (The seat of the local archdiocese), San Agustin (The oldest church in the Philippines and a UNESCO world heritage site), Barrio San Luis (a showcase of reconstructed colonial houses from the Spanish era), and Bahay Tsinoy (the Fil-Chinese museum).
